Configuring Mozilla

Below are instructions for configuring Mozilla (or Netscape 6/7). The procedure is similar in Windows, Macintosh and Linux.
Note: Mozilla development has officially ceased and been transferred to Firefox. If you experience a problem with Mozilla, you may want to upgrade to Firefox.

Manually Switch Encoding

If you see Roman alphabet gibberish (e.g. *a&h!!) instead of the correct script, you may need to For some Web sites, such as www.csssm.org (Chinese Simplified), you will need to manually switch from Western encoding view.

CHANGE ENCODING

1. Under the View menu, select Character Coding.
2. If necessary switch from Western to an appropriate encoding. You may need to go to the More submenu and select an appropriate region then the coding.
3. If there is more than one option per script, select one until the page displays properly.
4. AFTER you leave the site, you will have to switch your browser back to Western.

Change Default Fonts

1. Determine which encoding and fonts are needed for your script. You can check the Encoding by Script page for some scripts.
2. Under the Edit menu , select Preferences.
3. You should see a window with a list of options on the left. Under the Appearances options, choose Fonts.

   The above example is Central European for Macintosh with "CE" style fonts (e.g. "Times CE"). The Windows version would use plain "Times New Roman" instead.

4. From the Fonts for dropdown list, change Western to an appropriate script (e.g. Central European).
5. Select an appropriate as the Proportional, default Serif font and default Sans-Serif font from the dropdown list. An example of a serif font in English is Times New Roman; an example of a sans-serif font in English is Arial or Helvetica. For some scripts, you may use the same font for all options.

6. If no fonts are listed in the menus, then you need to install fonts designed for that encoding. Check the By Language pages to see which fonts are needed for your script/language.
7. Select an appropriate default font for the other options of Cursive, Fantasy and Monospace. A monospace font is one in which all the characters take up the same amount of space and is associated with older computer terminals. In some cases, you may use the same font for all types.
   

   This is monospace type.

8. Click OK to close the window.
