About TELL

The TELL program empowers faculty to integrate technology effectively into their courses, aligning digital tools with learning objectives to enhance student engagement and success focusing on BYOD. Through interactive learning strategies and peer collaboration, faculty will develop actionable plans to improve their teaching techniques and foster a dynamic, student-centered learning environment.

Program Overview & Structure

The TELL program is a hybrid faculty development experience designed to support educators in integrating technology effectively into their courses and engaging students with a BYOD focus. Faculty will engage in both synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities, with asynchronous content available through Penn State’s Learning Resources Network with an estimated time commitment of 6 hours of engagement, including discussions, hands-on activities, and planning.

This program provides instructional design support and fosters a community of educators focused on enhancing technology-driven learning. Faculty will receive personalized guidance as they develop and implement a project for their course, ensuring that technology is used effectively to support student success.

Key Focus Areas

  • Exploring Learning Spaces & Instructional Environments – Understanding how physical and digital spaces impact teaching and student engagement.
  • Technology Tools & Approved Courseware – Identifying the right tools and platforms for enhancing learning outcomes.
  • BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Policies in Syllabi – Incorporating clear guidelines for student device usage in the classroom.
  • Digital Fluency – Developing faculty and student proficiency in navigating and utilizing digital tools effectively.
  • Technology Assessments – Evaluating both student and faculty technology readiness to inform course design.
  • Designing Technology-Based Assignments – Creating effective learning activities that leverage technology to enhance engagement and comprehension.
