Faculty Opportunities
In order to transform education in positive and enduring ways, it is crucial to understand the challenges that impact our faculty’s pedagogy and also student success. Our fellowship program works with faculty to identify these challenges and explores how technology can help overcome them. These partnerships included AI-focused projects that expand the reach of impactful ideas and help shape the Penn State community’s future.
Annually, TLT grants several Faculty Engagement Awards. They focus on a specific theme that brings together sound pedagogy and digital tools that can enhance the educational experience. This year’s theme focuses on the exploration and investigation of generative AI tools. Award recipients are furnished resources to support their exploration and development. Each award includes a multi-semester, collaborative arrangement with an instructional designer and technology support staff.
The Provost Endorsement Program sets a new standard for professional development at Penn State. The AI-Enhanced Pedagogy: Exploring Generative AI as a Collaborative Partner for Teaching and Learning endorsement program aims to elevate faculty’s knowledge and ability in using generative AI for instructional purposes.

A curated set of Penn State–specific generative AI resources housed in Canvas. Faculty can embed these materials directly into their courses or use them as a reference for teaching, learning, and exploration.
Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is currently available to faculty, staff, and students as part of the University’s Microsoft contract.
AI Hub
Funded by Penn State’s Office of the Senior Vice President for Research and Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, the AI Hub is a forum for promoting AI activities to inform multiple audiences about this work, thereby energizing organization across our University community.

The Nittany AI Alliance teams with industry partners to create meaningful student engagement opportunities focused on new artificial intelligence solutions, services, and outreach projects.
AI Guidelines
The AI landscape is evolving rapidly, with its capabilities constantly improving and new tools being released daily. The current parameters on using Generative AI at Penn State are described below. Note that these guidelines for AI use may change as the field progresses. Ethical considerations, regulations, and guidelines surrounding Generative AI must be regularly reviewed due to its ever-evolving nature.

Tucked inside the Shields Media Commons next to the Dreamery, this in-person space is where learning and play collide. Open to faculty and staff, you can jump in with iPads loaded with premium AI tools, custom-designed experiences, and retro arcade games reimagined with AI. It’s the perfect spot to explore, experiment, and see what’s possible with generative AI.

AI Creative Labs are hands-on learning experiences where students explore the creative potential of generative AI by making music, designing games, and telling stories. Each lab invites students to experiment, collaborate, and build something original using AI tools. Faculty can schedule a lab to bring active, project-based learning into their course while introducing students to the future of creative work.

MUSIC LAB
Explore the creative potential of generative AI by developing a virtual music artist and hit single. Use AI tools for text, images, and audio to name your artist, design album art, produce music, and craft a promo reel showcasing the power of human AI collaboration.

CODE LAB
Reimagine classic arcade games like Breakout, Snake, or Space Invaders with your own custom theme. Use AI tools to create visuals, sound effects, and music while discovering how AI can act as a creative co-designer in a fun, hands-on experience.

GAME LAB
In this interactive workshop, students will team up to design and prototype a board game using text-based AI tools. After a brief intro to AI’s role in creative work, they’ll brainstorm and build with AI as a collaborative partner supported every step of the way in a fun, engaging environment.
